Traditional Jewellery Skills

Traditional Jewellery Skills  - £250  to include all materials

The next course starts: Saturday 10th March, 2018 (10th, 11th, 17th, 18th and 24th March)

This is a 5 day course over 3 weekends, suitable for complete beginners to jewellery making and for those who want to brush up or add to their jewellery skills.

For Metal Clay workers :  This course is suitable for those who have previously worked with metal clay and want to progress with their jewellery making to the next level.  The course will give you metal working techniques that you can apply to your fired metal clay work allowing you to finish to a professional standard.

For those who just wish to get a head start in conventional jewellery making and don't have the time to commit to a long term course, this is an intensive course that will cover metal working skills which could take up to a year to cover at college.

During the course we will be teaching traditional metal working skills such as  sawing, soldering, drilling, texturing, wire work, filing, doming, chain making, sanding, polishing and patination techniques for surface colour and texture. You do not need any previous knowledge of jewellery making skills to attend.  Please not that Metal Clay techniques are not covered on this course.

Tools and equipment will be available for students use and comprehensive notes on techniques covered will be provided. Using the skills that they have learned, students will be encouraged to design and produce a piece of work using silver sheet and a semi precious stone. The cost of the course is £250. This includes consumables, such as saw blades, copper, solder , emery papers, a prescribed amount of 925 sterling silver and a semi-precious stone.

At the end of the course, students will have an understanding of conventional jewellery making techniques and be confident in carrying out a number of technical processes including use of motorized machinery and equipment.  For those who wish to continue  jewellery making the studio is open every Monday morning and Wednesday for advice and full use of tools and equipment for just £12 per session.
